This week's Member Spotlight features Nick Gaines who was one of our very first Lodgic members. We admire his drive, his passion for social justice, and his many accomplishments. (Did you know he used to be a principal?) Read on for more fun facts....

Q: What is your business and how long have you been doing it?
A: Buying and managing rental properties. I've been an active real estate investor for 6 years and went full time this past July. (

Q: What is your mission?
A: My mission is to improve communities by providing quality housing at an affordable price.

Q: How many units do you have and where?
A: I currently own 21 units in Mattoon, Tuscola and Champaign-Urbana. I'm in the process of purchasing an 11 unit apartment building at the end of March. My goal is to own 100 units by the end of 2019.

Q: What is an interesting fact about you?
A: I had the honor of serving as principal at Robeson Elementary School for 5 years. I left that position this past July.

Q: If you could add anyone to Mount Rushmore who would it be; why?
A: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. - As a white person I think I can only partially appreciate the incredible impact this amazing man had on the course of history and the advancement of Civil Rights but I do not think there is anybody more deserving to be memorialized to the level of Mount Rushmore than Dr. King.

Q: What has been your greatest honor and why?
A: Being nominated and awarded the 2018 Central Illinois Business Forty Under 40 Award has been my greatest recognition thus far. Not because of the award itself, although it was humbling to be recognized alongside so many accomplished professionals in the community, but because the nomination came from parents at Robeson based on my work around the issues of equity and social justice.

Q: How often do you come to Lodgic?
A: I’m in Workplace 5 days a week. I also have used the gather rooms and the restaurant to host meetings.

Q: Why do you like Lodgic?
A: I like the energy, buzz, location and flexibility. It also adds credibility to my business.
